March 27, 1942. Mr. A. W. James, Crandall Drug Store, Jewell, Kansas. Dear Mr. JAMES 3 Thank you very much for your kind letter of March 25rd. I appreciate your invitation to speak on the evening of April 13th, and as much as I would like to come, I feel that I would be letting the University down. I also feel that I would be letting you down, but it seema almost impossible for me to make the trip. One of the members of our department, Dr. Elbel, has gone into the service, and I am taking over two of his classes. I have practically a full teaching schedule in the morning, and am coaching baseball in the afternoon. Vie Hurt, our football coach, could probably come at that time, as he has no classes, and also Wayne Replogle, who has been a Ranger. He would make you a very fine speech. During these trying times at the University I feel Se ee ee necessary. If there is anything I can do in the way of securing either af the above mentioned men, + hee oe ee than happy to cooperate. : oe end with all good wishes, I am Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation, PCA:AH Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
