Commissioning Officer and Prospective Commanding Officer proceed aft to commission station. Bugler sounds attention. . Commissioning Officer reads his orders, then directs: “Face Aft.” “Sound off Colors” (by bugle). “Hand salute.” . As colors are sounded the ensign will be hoisted and the commis- sion pennant broken out at the main mast. . Salute terminates when ensign is mastheaded. . Commissioning Officer then announces that the U. S. S. Telfair is in commission and delivers the vessel to the Commanding Officer. . The Commanding Officer reads his orders and accepts command. . The ship’s Chaplain delivers the Invocation. . Commanding Officer directs Executive Officer to: (1) Set the watch. (2) Start the ship’s time. (3) Commence the log. Executive Officer directs the DAViEntor tO? (1) Start the ship’s time. (2) Commence the log. Executive Officer directs the Boatswain to: (1) Set the watch. Boatswain calls the mates. Boatswain’s mates assemble and pipe all hands, followed by: (1) “All the watch.” (2) “First Section on deck—man all stations for port routine.” Boatswain reports: “All stations manned for port routine.” Executive Officer reports to Commanding Officer: (1) “Watch is set.” (2) “Ship’s time has been started.” (3) “AIl stations have been manned for port routine.” Commanding Officer directs Executive Officer to publish the orders. Executive Officer publishes the orders and dismisses the men from quarters.
