I haven't had a chance to talk with Maurice since your letter was received. Am inclined to the same opinion you are that Maurice was probably responsible for the request that you submit the puilding needs of your depart- ment. As you can imagine, I already had first hand in- formation from my daughter, Margaret, as to some of the needs of the department you mentioned. Hope you will carry out your promise to drop in fa a visit soon. I was very much surprised to hear what you had to say about Frosty Cox. You would think that he would appreciate all you have done for him. However, apparently he is one of the persons who have no gratitude for help which has been given him. I have know of other people who have had the same attitude. I appreciate your enclosing the clippings from the Journal World. I think it was unfortunate that the Athletic Board did not determine the matter of the coaches before the Board of Regents met. I do not know that anyone is especially to blame for the board's not having done so. As you know, we met in December to do this, but the meeting was called on a day Gwinn Henry had to leave for Chicago, and why it was called at such time I have no idea, nor do I know why the matter was not taken up at the next meeting because I was unable to attend it. . Karl Klooz advised me there #ould be a meeting Friday afternoon at two o'clock. At this time I am not certain whether T can attend. Anyhow, as I told Karl over the ‘phone, it seems to me that there is not much use in attending as the Board of Regents has made a decision for us. Some of the local alumni have made inquiry as to who is coming out with the team, but I have heard nothing definite. JI am wondering if by any chance you might be coming to Tucson for the game. If so, Mrs. VanderVries and I would like very much to have the opportunity to entertain you in our home. Last fall when Bill Hargess was here on a scouting trip the week before the Kansas-Arizona game, I had a delight- ful visit with him and we had a grand time going over old times. June 29, 1938 Dr. Forrest Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I have your letter of June 27th with refer- ence to basketball and baseball. IE am sorry we will be unable to play the basketball game but hope you will keep us in mind for future con- tests. As to the baseball the team we have here is of the hard ball variety. Now while we would be more than happy just to play a game of soft ball as a social meet, the players on this hard ball team are not good enough men socially to make such a trip a success. Further I should hesitate to ask for anything from government funds as I understand the state of Kansas has already got more than their share of government funds, so I guess we had better call the whole thing off. Please give Vernon my regards. With best personal wishes, Sincerely yours, Dad Jelippey Carl Voltmer Athletic Director CV: IM BLACK & VEATCH E.5.
