My dear Doctor Alien:

In the more than twenty years that I have been at the University of Kansas
we have never had a religious program or a week of religious emphasis which,
in my judgment, compares in possibilities with the proposed visit of the
University Christian Mission to our campus next fall from October 23 to 28.
The University Administration is asking that this week be kept just as clear
as possible of all other activities, and that we concentrate on this week
of religious effort which will bring to our campus a team of national and
international religious leaders.

The Chancellor has chosen an Executive Committee of twelve members, seven

of whom are students, to look after the many details of the proposed program.
This Committee met last Sunday, May 15, to choose the chairmen of the several
committees which will be necessary. You have been appointed as co-chairman
with Mr. Jim Haughey on the Special Group Meetings Committee.

It will be the function of this committee to ascertain the interest that
special schools or groups of students would have in hearing speakers on the
team who could benefit them. This will require your committee to find
opportunities for contact with members of the team, to designate the times
and places of actual ne, and to assist in choosing the themes and speak-
ers for those occasions.

During the next day or two we trust it will be possible for you to confer with
Mr. Haughey on the selection of a tentative personnel list for your Committee,
which should represent as far as possible all groups interested in the Mission.

All committee chairmen are asked to meet with the Exeoutive Committee at 2:30,
Sunday, May 22, in the Mathematics Office, Room 203, Frank Strong Hall, in
order to definitely determine the personnel and the functions of all the com-
mittees. In case it is absolutely impossible for you to come to this meeting,
will you please be sure that your co-chairman is present.

We thank you for your cooperation in this project, which has such great
possibilities for the religious life of our campus.
