THOMAS MEMBER OF NATIONAL FEDERATION OF ATHLETIC ASSOCIATIONS COMMISSIONER ; ROOM 409- MATIONAL RESERVE BUILDING . TOPEGIA August 6, 1943 Dr. Forrest C, Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear "Doc": I received your letter and appreciate your checking up on me on the matter of Dr. Boughton's contribution to our athletic injuries coursee I presume the implications of one of the sentences in the folder are different than I had intended. Neither Chuck Cramer nor Dr. Boughton suggested that I say anything about their qualifications and as far as I know Dr. Boughton knows nothing about what has been printed. The fact is that he has been running some tests on treatments for athlete's foot with Chuck Cramer and Chuck offered to bring the doctor along to explain it to the boys heree That's about all there is to it. Of course, we know Chuck's qualifications because we have tested him several times in conjunction with other regular trainers and physicians that we have had on our staff. I don't know of anyone anywhere, aside from yourself, who has kept more up to date on athletic injuries and the latest methods in their care and treat- ment than has Chuck Cramer. As far as Dr. Boughton is concerned, he is just extra and is charging us nothing for his services. I am glad to have your tip, however, and we'll be pretty careful hereafter in wording the statements in our folders. You understand we have always enjoyed your work in our coaching schools and, of course, expect to invite you to participate in them in the future. With best wishes, I an, Yours very cordially, E.R.
