Gnited States Post Office noo IN REPLYING MENTION INITIALS AND DATE Independence, Kansas. June lst, 1942. Coach Allen, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Mr. Allen: I am taking the liberty in writing you in regard to my kid who dees nothing but practice with a basketball. He is 14, weighs 128 lbs. and is 5'8" tall. He was on Junior Hich Basketball squad the past season and is expecting to go "Great Guns)the coming season. Now this is what I would like to know -- -- the boy wants some expert instruction, and I would like to be able #6 give him some. As I have a brother-in-law that teaches at University of Alabama and a nephew James Roberts who is end on their foot-ball team, I thot that I would send him dow there for a month or six weeks and try to have their basketball ccach teach him some new shots. Of course I expect to pay the coach, if he does the teach- ing of my kid. Would that effect the amateur standing of my boy? I would certainly be grateful to you if you will be so kind as to clear this matter up for me. Several years ago, I bought a hoop and I spend from 1 to 2 hours daily throwing the basketball to boys that congregate at my place. I have just bought by third basketball. I am wondering what I will do when my kid goes off to college,- take some smaller boys in hand, I guess. Sincerely yours, Pare Chie Laurence C. Turner, P.O.Box 572, Independenee, Kansas.
