DODGE CITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DODGE CITY, KANSAS January 14, 1940 F. B. TOALSON PRINCIPAL Dr. Fe C. Alten Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Desr DF. Allen: I have been rather slow in answering your inquiry in regard to the Physicel Education courses to be offered in summer school. Naturally I would prefer course #201 in Advanced Basketball if you plan to give it. My basketbell training has been deficient in many of the points that probably would be covered in this course. I want to take this opportunity of congratulating you on the fine type of basketball that was pleyed by your team in Topeka at the tournament. I was disappointed in the type of game that was played by so many of the teams. I think thet the game will live on indefinitely if kept on a high plane such as wes demonstrated by your players. May you continue to have outstanding success vith your efforts. The Dodge High School team has been quite fortunate to date in that it has won the first seven games. Of course we expect to lose «at any time for the law of averages will soon catch up with us. Do you remember a player from last year's clinic by the name of Evens? He wes ea dark haired, heavy set, forwerd who was so fest and such a good shot. Friday, against Great Bend, he dropped in 9 goals and 2 free throvs to continue in the lead in tie Southwest Kansas League. I would like to ask your opinion in regard to my style of play. I have used three men in during the first half of the game «nd then changed to three men out in the lest half. This did not give the opposing coaches much chance to set up a defense against us. Naturally during the second round of play this vill not be so effective. Would you suggest that I use three men out all of the time as I do not have any tall men who are especially effective under the basket? I have trouble getting plays thet are effective with either plan but have had the most success with three men out. I shall eppreciate any suggestions that may be able to give me. Yours sincerely, Posreuas Valo” Leurence Stanton
