2 FOURTH OF JULY PICNIC (1939) The 4th of July picnic wes held at Brown's Grove on Tuesday, which followed Monday, a school holiday. There were approximately 70 people at the picnic, most of wham were older peoplee About one=~ fourth of the group were young children, oes fourth of college age, end one-half teachers and graduate students in sumer school. The picnic started at 8 aeme Tuesday morning, and before 9 Gee the picnic was well under wey and lasted until 12:30. Profs F. 0. Russell and family did a wonderful job on the pre-e paration of the foode Prof. Russell's steaks were the theme of the picnice Reservations for the picnic were made on sheets like the one attached to this report. The problem of transportation was taken care of in wonderful shape. Everybody had a ride, and none of the cars were overcrowded. Everyone cooperated in fine style for the transportation. Games Dre Allen and Dave Shirk took care of the play equipment for the picnic. The equipment was taken to the grounds in the stadium truck by permission. This equipment should be taken out early enough to be set up before the group starts eating. Following is a list of the equipment taken out: Baseball: 4 balls, 3 bats Badminton: 3 nets, 8 rackets, 10 new and used birds Archery: complete outfit without the backstop. Horseshoes: 8 shoes, 4 stakes, hammer to drive stakes
