Dear Miss Bourquardez: The questionnaires which you requested us to send from this office have beon sent, and I trust that the replies will be coming in to you before long. Personally, I believe that in the present war situation we need something like this to stimlaete us to, be- Ss 8 change takes place to nake thom really congigant of whe what we are trying to do. We need some approach that we have not had in the past for these younger people. C. Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doctor Allen; I have held up the enclosed list of teacher education institutions, pending replies from all the committee members, in order to send you as complete and up-to-date listing as possible. In case your list of institutions did not include some of these places, you will be able to add these to your mailing list for the questionnaires that you are sending to directors of departments. Although I have asked for replies to these questiomaires by January 15th, I realize that everyone has been delayed in work due to the additional load we have undertaken for national defense. Therefore, I shall expect to receive replies up to the middle of February. I believe thet I will then be able to compile them into a complete summary for your final approval before the Convention. With this summary I will send you the names of the teacher education institutions that answered the questionnaire so that you may have a record of those that sre taking an interest and active part in student affairs in your section. I am especially appreciative of your help knowing how exceptionally busy you have become due to the present war. Please do not hesi- tate to send me your suggestions. Sincerely, Yrpira fl Virginia Bourquardez, Chairman Texas State College for Women VB-h Denton, Texas COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES OFFERING A MAJOR IN HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION Compiled, January, 1940 by the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Revised 1941 by Committee on Student Section to include Normal Schools and additional colleges offering a major or minor in this field. Plans underway to organize 2 national studunt section and thus make them really active in Association saffcirs. B. To motivate highcr standards of professionel growth, etc. The Committee felt thet this would come about best through institutions themselves reising their standards and stimulating the interest of students in their profession. In reply to the questionnaires, the answer has been again and again to have the faculty clurt and interested in all professional matters and students will follow. Ds Rocommendations of Gommittes to the Board of Directors Throughout the work of this Committee the consensus of opinion has beén that in order to have students actively interested in the A.4a-HeP-E.R- tne students themselves must take an active port. With the orgenization of a National Student Section at the coming convention this idea becomes a reality. The functions of this Committee can to 2 great extent be carried on by them. With the guidance of the faculty memoer wha sponsors this section, the students can proceed with the reports ind summaries made by this Committee when these are made available to them at that times The files of this Committec will be 2t the disposal of the Board of Directors. Well, here it is. I am sorry to be so late in getting back to you the summary of the answers to one of the questionnaires. Following the example of some of you, the flu caught up with me toot You will no doubt recall that when I first wrote to you I sugzested that we send out to schools questionnaires on the problems we were asked, as a Committee, to help solve so that we might get their ideas and senc a sum- mary back to them. Because of your help the distribution of these was made possible. I have endeavored to keep the load of work as light as possible for each of you because I know how busy you ane. Functions ¢ and 4 (plans for students at the Convention) I have tried to carry out without calling upon you since the student chairman is in my College. I hope that the meetings etc. planned follow your lines of thought. You will find them written up in the April issue of the Journal. As soon as I have completed the summary of the state and district cuestion- aires (I sent out the district ones) I will send them to you. The district summary will be sent out from here. I hope you will find it possible to distribute the state report to the states allocated to you. This leaves a maximum of 50 teacher education institutions and in most cases less than that to be sent the enclosed report by each of you. I do hope that you will find it possible to get this out now. It may do some good for the National Convention. I will be glad to send the stencils for this summary to any of you who find it impossible to get them cut at your institution. I am enclosing also, the report of our Comiittees" work which I sent to the Board of Directors. I hope it meets with your approval. It is my understanding that our work finishes when we have fulfilled the cuties listed in this report. In. conelusion, I wish to thank each of you for your cooperation, your many eood ideas, and your support. I hope that we have fulfilied our work satisfactorily. I hope also to meet ench of you in New Orleans. pineercly, VEih? Virginia Bourquardez, Chairinan Comittee on Student Section AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR ERALTE, P.
