REPORT OF CURRENT Y.M.C.A. ACTIVITIES ASSEMBLIES : During the first semester seven assemblies were held for the discussion of such subjects as "The Unique Message of Christianity," "Growing Up Emotionally," and "Experiments in Higher Education.” Some of these were student panels, while others featured such speakers as Joseph F. King, Carter Harrison, "Chuck" Schwieso and Prof. Osborne. FRESHMAN COUNCIL: This group of freshmen men meets weekly. Fields of interest have included, "What is Culture," "Problems Faced by College Men," "Being a Gentleman” and "Campus Politics." Student and faculty leaders have contributed much to this group. The list of leaders includes John Ise, Dean Werner and Miss Meguiar, Professor Doan, Donald Voorhees, Red Blackburn and Wade Green. CURRENT ACTION STUDY GROUP: This group has met weekly to discuss "The Youth Congress," "The Delta Farm Co- operative," "The Sino Japanese Conflict,” etc. REINTERPRETATION OF RELIGION: This group was led during the first semester by John Hunt. The following subjects were discussed: ‘What is a Heligious Experience,” "Is a God Necessary to Religion," "Religion and Morality," "Jesus: Man, God or Myth," "The Origins of Religion.” This group now meets jointly with the Y.W.C.A. in a study of the life and teachings of Jesus. MISCELLANEOUS : Creative Leisure group meets every Sunday to explore various phases of creative living. They are now producing a moving picture. A Freshman Mixer was held during the first week of school. Kirby Page was here for two days, giving four lectures. A Christmas Party was held before vacation for a group of poor children of Lawrence. Representatives were sent to the National Assembly at Oxford, Ohio; also to the K.U.- K.S.C. retreat at Wamego. Four Peace Forums have been planned for this semester preceding Peace Mobilization day. Social Suppers are now being held weekly, especially for those whose social contacts are limited. Travelling Forums have already appeared before a farm group and are planning several more engagements this term. Cooperation with the Student Christian Federation in such projects as Religious Emphasis Week and the Lenten worship services has been our privilege. Daily Consultation with many students with a great variety of problems is a part of the secretary's regular program.
