The roaas that I wrote Mr. Davis about were not
plemed for temporary construction; In my opinion, it is just as per~
manent as the brick wall that we built giving the women more ample
dressing room facilities, and the closing in of the shower room which |
added a hygienic situation. We have a wooden ceiling above this location
that I desired walled ine If we would put any flemmable construction there
we would just add to the hazards of being burned dows

I have carried on a relentless fight against the use
of cigarettes in this building. It is a fire trap, and if fire would ever
start on the wooden construction it would just take these floors out in
double time.

I trust that you will see that I have thought this
matter over very carefully and worked very patiently through the years
endeavoring to procure the greatest possible efficiency wader most

small improvement in building, which is 51 years old, has never been
torn out or changed. Youre ago we had placed in the ceiling of Robinson
Gymnasium large ventilators to aid in the circulation of air on that floor.

that is to use that space up there for recitation class and research roomBe
This, of course, is when ths funds are available. It would provide a :
large amoumt of additional space and at the same time would close that
large auditorium off with a ceilings And the ceiling would be high enough
not to interfere in any way with basketball gemes and other gemes that -
require elevated ceilings. At the same time, it would give greatly ene
larged space which is so uscessary here for class roone in our new physical
education set upe Dormer windows could be rum along the Oe oe
the roof to admit swumlight in a most pleasing fashions

This building really needs rewiring to lessen the
fire hazards ‘This floor for the upper rooms and the ceiling for the
gymaasiva would provice a space for electric lighting fixtures and would
make safe the handling of this lighting. As it is now, it is a great
hagard for the men to climb from beam to beam in handling this very

dangerous lighting situation.

request before we asked for it.
