LAWRENCE COMMUNITY CHEST, rnc. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WREN BUILDING October 9, 1943 LAWRENCE, KANSAS OFFICERS WALTER SCHAAL, PRESIDENT A. E. WorEsTEMEYER, 1ST V1CE-PRESIDENT Mrs. Cary J. Dopps, 2Np VICE-PRESIDENT E. J. Coy, TREASURER Grorce HeEprick, SECRETARY Dr. F.C. Allen, President, Rotary Club, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr, Allens During the week of October 18th to 25th the National War Fund is presenting to all of the peoples of the United States an appeal for service to our fighting forces, for service to the unconquerable peoples of the United Nations and for service to the home front in the United States. The following organizations are all joined in one campaign----the USO and 16 other agencies serving the common war aim in foreign lands, those guiding the families of service men, war workers, and their families towards necessary health, welfare and recreation. . General Eisenhower asks prompt and abundant support. The secretary of the Navy has issued a general order to all branches of the Navy to support the National War Fund to the limit. Our Secretary of War has done the same. Leaders all over the country say that of all their philanthropic donations the National War Fund Drive will top their list, so we as Kansans will say, "Sure, I'll take a Kansan's share because a share in the National War Fund is a share in winning the war". You will see, hear and read more favorable publicity about the National War Fund Drive than any other philanthropic campaign. We are combining the National War Fund with our own Community Chest Drive and you will find enclosed a descriptive folder listing the seventeen organizations of the National War Fund and those in our Community Chest. We are hoping that all the lodges, clubs and organizations in Lawrence will contribute as generously as possible to this very worthy cause. Will you please have this letter read at your next meeting and all contributions may be sent to the Community Chest--War Fund, Chamber of Commerce, WREN Building. Yours very sincerely, Te vl.
