Dear Dr. Andes: Floyd Santmer has presented to me your letter in regard %o his clessea in Physical Conditioning, ‘The covermnsnt insisted that all students who are regiatered for Selective Service or are monbers ef the various enlisted reserve ser- vices of the armed forces ef the United States be required - % take conditioning exercises. ‘The minimm here at the University ef Kansas is three hours a week, while at mest institutions the minimm is five hours a week. Due te our limited facilities were able to offer only the three-heur week schedule. ce at The Department ef Physical Eiueation has ne autherity to exempt anyone from these classes. The University Sena and the Chanceller have appointed a Committees on tiens from Physical Confitioning, and this cemmittee inferms us when any student has been exempt. Every student has a health | examination where they are classified A, B, GC er D. The hospital usually recommends that students classified C or D, because of some physical disability, be exempted from the eccepts their recommendation. _ I assure you that if there is any possible wy that I can ceeperate with you witheut violating the Senate ruling I will be glad te de it. The clase schedule is not so diffi- cult but whet a fellow carrying the usual lead has ample time te exercise three times a week fer a one hour period.
