July 7, 1943. Dr. Forrest C. Allen, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: I am making application for a license to practice law in Nebraska, based upon a Nebraska Statute concerning reciprocity and also my license to practice in Kansas. Such application requires my listing the names of persons as character references from every community in which I have ever lived, I have taken the liberty of including your name inasmuch as you knew me when we lived in Lawrence, and since Mitt and I were good friends, The purpose of this letter is to acquaint you with the fact that I included your name, and to give you the necessary background in case an inquiry is made of you by either the Nebraska State Supreme Court or by the Bar Commission. I will. appreciate anything you may do to aid my application in case such inquiry is made, I am still with the Investigation Division but I am getting a little tired of traveling so much and believe that the time is ripe to open up an office. I intend to do that soon. I was happy to see Mitt, Isabelle and Judy for a few hours when I went thru Lawrence recently, and to talk to Mrs Allen over the telephone. A couple of weeks ago I happened to meet Ham Beresford's prother from Boulder and had quite a basketball talk. Ham was C.U.coach before Cox, and the brother I talked with was connected wit the K.C.Life team for some time. I have also peen wanting to tell you about Kenny Sailors of Laramie, and my almost having had him in basketball. He grew up at Hillsdale, Wyoming and went thru the eight elementary grades there. In 1934-35 they had a good Junior High team there, and as an eighth grader he played. In the summer of 19355 his mother moved to Laramie. I still had all the boys on that Junior High team and had an undefeated Junior High season in 1935-36 although Sailors had moved to laramie. That was pretty close to having had a good boy. I was at Hillsdale from 1935 to 37. Our best wishes to you and Mrs. Allien. Sheldon Wingerd, Doniphan, Nebraska. July 17, 1943.
