Dr. Forest a. allen, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear friend “"Phog": Now that it is all over, permit me to again congratulate you upon another marvelous accomplishment. Jt has been a glorious season. What I had in mind to say to you some time ago will keep, but I think you will enjoy discussing the matter I had in mind. WILLIAMS 4 DIRECTOR THE THORNTON & MINOR CLINIC SPECIALIZING /N RECTAL AND COLONIC DISEASES SINCE /877 KANSAS CITY MISSOURI April 2, 1940 Dr. Forrest C. Allen Athletic Dep ertment University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear "Phog" The first thing I want to do this morning (Monday) is to write and tell you what I have said behind your back many, many times, and that is that I think you have done a wnder- ful job this year, not only in bringing that team of yours through with greater improvement in every game all through the year, but for your part in the N. C. A. A. Tournament, It goes without saying that the people in this part of the country will not soon forget those great games. That game last Saturday night certainly did bring back memories of a certain Butler College-K.C.A.C. game back in 1924, Butler sunk baskets from the center of the floor and made a good percentage of their shots as Indiena did Saturday night. Honestly, I am commencing to believe that these Indiana teams are impossible to beat. Anyway, I can imagine that a certain "Phog" Allen, as well as the rest of us, did get to see a certain play that the Indiana team did wrk to perfection for the goal. The play I refer to is the one with the real low pass which resulted in about four or five goals. Anyway, old boy, here's one who has always admired you from the very beginning, and here's hoping you continue to en- joy good health and happiness for many years to come, With always my very best personal regards. Sincerely yours GLW: KA THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS LAWRENCE DEPARTMENT OF MuSiIc April 12, 1940 Dr. F. CO. Allen, Mgr. N.C.A.A. Basketball Tournament, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: Thank you for your kind letter of April 10. I wish to say that it was a real pleasure to have an opportunity to work with you in a small way on the national basketball tournament. You are to be highly congratulated on the great achievements which you have made this year. It seems that Dr. Allen is in the habit of making great achievements, but it takes something like the Kansas City event to keep the people fully awake of what has been going on all along. | Hats off to you, Dr. Alleni. It was needless for you to send the little token which you sent in your letter, but I assure you that it is greatly appreciated and again I want to thank you. It was really much in use, I understand. .You should understand that this event was first invited to Lawrence by the School of Fine Arts of the University and that all requests for use of buildings and rooms were taken care of by that school. I am only sorry that you were not better and earlier informed of our needs and wants. I shall be glad to call to the attention of Mr. Wherry the extent of class interruption that resulted, apparently from inadequate supervision and misunderstanding about facilities available.
