Dear Phog: It was a great deal of pleasure to receive a letter from you of this date as we certainly have fond memories of your several visits here. Mrs. Wrightman, Rosalie, and I went down to see Fred last week-end and found him in the best of nealth and cer- tainly working hard. He is carrying sixteen hours besides two hours of activity which, of course, keeps him busy. but he likes it very much and is getting along verv well. He is out for track and works out with the bov from Paola who is supposed to be quite a star. Regarding Mr.. Hanson, I am glad to say that he has more than come up to our expectations. He is getting along very well with the boys and they seem to cooperate anti work for him very hard. In our conference, he has won two games and lost one. The one lost should have been a tied game. He is aiso doing well in his class work so that I feel, altogether,, that we are very fortunate in having chosen him for the place. I want to thank you for your cooperation in helping us to get such a good man. JOHN'S COLLEGE WINFIELD, KANSAS | November 9, 1939, Mr. Forrest C. Allen, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Mr. Allen: St. John's Junior College of Winfield, Kensas, is in the process of remodelling its gymnasium, and there are various points of construction on which I have been seeking much needed information. For such information I had spoken to Mr. Hersh Cornwell of Eldorado, Kansas, and he in turn referred me to you. The point is this. In our gymnasium we are attaching the basketball backboards to the walls at either end, undoubtedly by a framework of steel. Do you think it advisable to put in such construction to conform to the present type backboard, or is it highly probable that the smaller concave type backboard will be the coming thing in basketball ? If the old type is going to stay in, our construction may as well conform to it, but if the new type comes in, we will have to reconstruct the whole framework at quite an expense, if we do not prepare for it 2t the present time. I would be deeply appreciative for your opinion and suggestions on this matter. woe yf bfahlne Lorenz #. Wahlers, Coach. lw/wp Novenber 16, 1959. Ted Moser, the boy whom I refer to, will return to Kansas University this next semester. Ted is about six feet two inches tall and wéighs around one-hundred and Pitty pounds He played a regular forward position on my high sch 901 team here for two years and is a boy that really has basketball possibilities and is one who loves the game. Ted played with the intramural team at Kansas last year and was selected on the intramural all-stars He is one of the finest boys we have ever had anything to do with, a perfect gentleman and a very good student.
