Allen Dept. of Physical Education Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc: By the time you receive this, the Missouri game will be over, and I have every hope that we will still be at the top of the heap. I have been wanting to write you this letter to express our thanks for the very good tickets which you obtained for my Aunt Madge Bullene, my wife and me for the Oklahoma game. They enjoyed it thoroughly, and I would not have missed it for the world. I.was behind the scorer's bench which is the best position I have ever had for watching the K. U. basketball games. I had hoped to make the trip to Columbia, but the papers tell me that it is a complete sell- out; and as I understand that the game is to be broadcast, I shall stay near to the radio tomorrow night. Thanking you and with every good wish for an- other successful season in 1939-40, I am WW: JM PS: Please give my best regards to your family. e «a ASU Cie * ONiauisieipe any inst® COMPLETE PROPERTY PROTECTION damuary 225 19586 Very cordially yours, PCA sAll OFFICERS HARRY LANGLAND, PRESIDENT L. Allen, Director Physical Education Department Campus Dear Doctor Allen: I have your letter of February 27 which I appreciate very much. I assure you it has been a real pleasure to work with you through the basket ball season just closed. I hope that the side-line support which we tried to give really did prove to be of some benefit. You certainly are one swell fellow to work with. Regarding the statement in your letter concerning contributions to our Washington trip, may I explain that Mr. Falkenstein rather put me on the spot because I permitted two out-of-town band directors : and their wives, and two Springfield, Mo., high school boys who are 5 Prospective KU students next year, to go in with the Band for the He Homecoming football game. Earl called me on the carpet in a let- ter which was not too tactful and in my answer I brought out the fact that so far as our records showed at the time, Ad Lindsey was the only member of the athletic staff who had contributed a cent to our "On To Washington Fund". I really did not intend that this should reflect on anyone in the pee Athletic Department and I am particularly sorry I made such a 2 statement since your contribution was reported a day or two fol- E lowing my correspondence with Mr. Falkenstein. I can assure you - that *I hold nothing against any member of the athletic staff. Mr. Henry and Mr. Falkenstein have been swell to me and you have been even more than that. | May I compliment you on the fine record you have made with the Basketball team this year. After all an 80 per cent batting average is considered fair in any league and you should be able to feel pretty good over the whole situation.
