Dear Phog:

We have here in Salina a very interesting
Gridiron Club which has a dinner meeting every two
weeks at the Lamer Hotel. We have one principal
topic for discussion at each meeting and the one for
our meeting next week is one which you know more
about than any one else whom I lmow. essed I am
writing you for your viewpoint, for which I have
considerable regard.

The question for discussion is :"Should
College Athletics Be Subsidized? If so, to what
extent?" For its background, the question has the
incident of the Pittsburg players demanding personal
payment if they went to the Rose Bowl this year.

I will appreciate it if you will write me
your sentiments on this question. Also, if you kow
of a timely article on this question, please tell me
where I may find it. |

You might be interested in kmowing that I
am sending my son, Bob, down to K,. U. next fall. He
is very much interested in basket ball and is playing —
on the high school team. I do not know how far he wil
o in college competition but he is going to try.
