THOMAS |. PARKINSON, PRESIDENT WARREN V. WOODY, AGENCY MANAGER ROOM 2136 120 S. LA SALLE STREET CHICAGO, ILLINOIS CHICAGO, ILL., September 8, 1937 Dear Doc, Thanks for your check, and I did laugh over your wit. I was delighted that you ee had a good time. a Young Miller shouldn't have much question in his mind as to whom he wantsto be with, you or John Bunn. Really I am terribly disappointed in Bunn. Nettels and I were going to send him a telegram or call him on the phone and then we decided that it probably was a waste of time. After your raising this fellow Bunn and then getting him that job, his entire education furnished by the tax payers of Kansas, and I am sure that his associates got a good deal more than he contributed to the University, I can't understand his action. Young Martin is already down in Lawrence. Tonight I am putting Merkel and a baseball player about whom I spoke to you--Earl Close--on the train. Close has a little money. His father doesn't make much money. I believe he has the right mental attitude. He is a pretty good football player, a very good baseball player, really probably a much better basketball player. Doc, if you could get something for this fellow to do to defray his expenses I would appreciate it. He is a worthy kid and a battling Irishman. Lindsey has agreed to take care of Merkel and Martin. My choice, of course, is Merkel. The boys will probably annoy you considerably, asking you for counsel because they are very enthusiastic about you. Thanks again, Doc, and I will apreciate it if you can find this boy Close a job. With every good wish, I am Sincerely yours, Dre Forrest C.
