Memorandum ‘to the Chancellor: fhenk you very much for the copy of the Kew York Times as of December 6th giving the war time train- ing at Colgate. I was very much interested in their physioal conditioning course. I note with interest that they called Col. Robert Rossow, of Culver, back there for two months’ in- struction. Col. Rossow is now returning to Culver to take over his old duties. I was well acquaizited with him since we had tw sons under him at Culver. PeCede Movenber 14, 1942. Chancellor Deane W. Malott, University of Kensas. : Dear Chancellor Malott: Vic Hurt has informed me thet he will be unable to take the conditioning courses, but will take Replogle's football class which is a two-hour course meeting on Tuesday and Thursday. Mr. Replogle has been loyal, enthusiastic, pumctual and personable in his classes. That is a decided contribution and with his going there is a definite loss that cannot be made up by student leaders. Since Mr. Replogle did such a splendid job, and since besketball is entailing heavier duties as the winter comes on, I feel definitely that we should have an additional instructor from the outside, the like of Mr. Strait. wie have a fine group, but we are undermanned. Will you give me permission to immediately look inte the high school field and see if we ‘cannot get another fine young man like Mr. Strait? In working out class schedules for the spring semester, it is suggested that departments follow closely the principles outlined below: : : 1. Fill one room to capacity before using a second room. 2. Schedule 40% of the work in the afternoon hours; and 10% (included in the 40%) at 3:30 or later, or at Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday morning hours. 3. Request a room from the Committee instead of using a department room of normal or large size, in case of a class which probably will have a small enrollment. . The problem of providing satisfactory rooms for classes of the University, the Navy, the CPT, and the Signal Corps can be met, I am confident, if we all cooperate in following the suggestions | enumerated above. 1 : Sincerely yours, RAYMOND NICHOLS, Chairman Committee on Assignment of Quarters UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS Lawrence wov 6 1942 Committee on Assignment of Quarters My dear Dr. Mew ere Attached are the cards for report of the classes planned. by your department for next semester.
