THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS LAWRENCE OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR December 19, 1940 Dr. F. C. Allen University of Kansas Dear Phog: Thank you for letting me see this correspondence. I don't know just what the approach might be, and of course I am not sure whether this particular matter would appeal much to Mr. Phillips or whether some other University purpose would be of major interest. I suggest that you sometime talk with Lyle Arme] and Mr. Templin in the Endowment Association to see what they might think of it. For the moment, I think we should probably do nothing, because we have the Mineral Industires Building up before the legislature, we are building a little engineering laboratory out of dirt and old scrap iron!--we have a WPA application in for an armory, and, as you know, the Union Board is discussing among its own membership the question of a Union Building additton. I think there is a danger, if we are not careful, of muddying the water with too many projects, all of which might be confusing to the legislature. After the session, however, I see no reason why we should not move forward on some such project as you and I have © talked of occasionally. Sincerely yours, Deane W. Malott, DWM:R Chencellor Enc.
