Jomuary 14, 1941 Chancellor Deane We. Malott Frank Strong Hall University of Kansas Dear Chancellor Malott: _ . This is to confirm ott ihe conversation of this morning regarding our possible slese cooperation with the University of Kansas Student Health Service and Hospital. I desire to state that it will be a@ great pleasure for me to do everything possible to encourage and’ eG8O Os mich.as possible the friendly relationships between our Department of Physical Education and our branch of athletie coaching, basketball, and ire Canuteson's department. Mey I state that 1 had well in mind the acbien of the University of Kansas Physical Education Corporation, Athletic Board when I visited Dre Anderson lest Sundays I went you to know that there was no other reason in my mind than to visit an old old friend who for twenty-two years had taken care of our Varsity athletes without one penny compensations Dre Mott and Dre Arthur Anderson had for a limited time received $500.00 with compensation — for taking care of the football team, Their services did not include profes< sional care for any other sporte All these years the teams of other sports have gone to Dr. Anderson's office, received “inoculations of all sorts, emergency surgical treatment of all Kinds, with the exception of major operations, without his charging one pennys For the past three years we have been closely associated with Dre Don Carlos Peete of the faculty at Rosedale, Kansas. Dre Peste attends all of our basketball and football games, even though we play away from home,in the BigeSix Conferencee He had rendered exceptional prefessional skill to Richard eidll ae & peyohintriat, bo @ Engleman last yeare Due to Dre Peete's exceptional as @ psychiatrist, he did a wonderful job for both of theme _ two years ago Dr. Peete suggested that on account of the strain of basketball on the cardiac muscles that we give our boys glycolixir, betalin and dextrine I give Dre Peete credit more than anyone else for the phenomenal showing of our basketball teams in the play-off games with Southern California, Rice, Oklahoma Aggies and Oklahoma. None of our boys are endowed with powerful physiques, and it.was Dr. Peete's close care and professional guidance that helped us more than any other one things Before we started cast Dre Peete made a special trip to Lawrence and prescribed and furnished us medicine for flu and bad colds, This medicine came ~ to us at the most helpful time and doubtless saved some of our boys from going to the hospital enroute.
