THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS LAWRENCE OFFICE OF February 6, 1939 THE CHANCELLOR Dr. F, C. Allen University of Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: This will acknowledge your letter of February 1 concerning the request for the purchase of a book through your maintenance allowance. I am approving this particular Purchase Request, but should like to point out that the University policy has been to restrict book purchases to the Library fund. I think that we should keep in line on this policy. I note your request for additional quarters in Robinson gymnasium. I appreciate the fact that you are de~ veloping the physical education program in quarters already crowded, but I do not believe it is possible at this time to assign to you the space now occupied by the Athletic Office. Frankly, I know of no place to shift them. The demand for additional class and office space has already approached a crisis in several departments. I do not see any solution until the legislature provides one or two new buildings for us. I am glad to keep your request on file, and shall hope that some readjustment will be possible at an early date. Sincerely yours,
