MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
LAWRENCE COMMUNITY CHEST

August 235, 1944

The meeting was called to order by Mr. Eby who stated that
the chief reason the meeting was called has to do with that section
of the By-Laws which calls for an audit of the accounts of each
member agency. Mr. Eby read Section 5 of Article X, Member Agency
Agreements, which is as follows: "Each member agency shall have
its accounts audited annually by an independent auditing committee
appointed by the president of the Chest, and shall file a copy of
such audit statement with the Community Chest. The Board may hire
a competent accountant, or committee of accountants, to perform the
above services.". :

After general discussion, Mr. Woestemeyer moved that the
Budget Committee of the Community Chest act as an auditing committee
to check: up on the audits the member agencies has had,’ and if they
had none to see about getting their books audited. Motion was
seconded by Mrs.. Deal Six.

Mr. Eby calied for a discussion of the above motion and
Mr. Lowman suggested a substitute motion to the effect that the
President, Mr. Eby appoint an auditing committee smaller than the
Budget Committee, and that the amount of money, if any, to be spent
to comply with this section of the by-laws be left to the discretion
of the President. Substitute motion seconded by Mrs, Six. A vote
on the substitute motion called by Mr. Eby approved same unanimously.

Mr. Fox moved that we combine the National War Fund drive
and the Community Chest. Mr, Penny seconded the motion and it
carried unanimously.

There being no further business, Mr, Fox moved to adjourn,
seconded by Mr. Penny. Carried.
