Dear Dr. Allen:

I have to report for Naval duty at Kansas
City, Thursday, November 16, and will be sent
to Great Lakes for training that same day.

I would be so pleased if you could and
would write me a letter of recommendation and
I will stop in at your office and pick it up
there around 4:00 or 4:50 P.M. Wednesday.

This isn't giving you much time and you
may not get my letter in time to do this for
me, but if you can I will appreciate it. I
hadn't expected my orders so soon.

If I shouldn't get to see you, here's wish-
ing you the best of success with your basketball
team and thanks for all you have done for me.
