July 20, 1944. Dr. Alfred Wy Nelson, Chairnen, Faculty Athletic Committee, University of Denver, Denver, Colorado. Dear Dr. Nelson: I have known Mr. Cliff Rock when he was an outstanding ath- lete at the College of Emporia. He coached with splendid success in the high schools of the state and last year, in addition to his physical education work at Kansas State, he coached their var- sity hanhernss team. z viet @ public statement after the close of the season that in my opinion Cliff Rock had done more with his basketball talent, proportionately speaking, than any basketball coach who has been at Kansas State during my stay at the University during the past 25 years. lie is a clean, Siees apirites young man. He is enthusiastic, and by the power of his personality he stimulates his men to greater endeavor. I do not know much conmerning his ability so far as coach- ing football is concerned, but I would say that he is a splendid - basketball coach. Neither do I kmow anything about his track and baseball. Cliff Rock has established a fine caenere and it is my | spinion that he would cooperate most wonderfully with the athletic staff, the faculty and the administrative officers. His habits, attitudes, personal appearance are of the very best. I am sure that ‘there could be nothing but: the best impressions made on the commmity outside the institution by his actions. I am very fond of this young man and think that he will make some school a splendid coach. Very sincerely yours, “Director of Physical Education, Varsity Basketball Coach. /
