Dear "Doc":

I know a lot of K.U. people shared the same feeling of
pride that I did when they saw the announcement in the
Sunday Kansas City paper regarding your selection by
the Helms Foundation of Los Angeles as "the greatest
basket ball coach of all time". The only thing is
that the Helms Foundation is just finding out what all
of we K.U. people (and the other teams and coaches in
the Big Six) have known for a good many years. It is,
however, a real satisfaction to see that your ability
is properly recognized.

I am sorry to have to admit that I did not have a
chance to see your swell 1942-43 team in action this
year but between gas rationing and a lot of night
work to be done in connection with our Army Air Force
contracts, there never seemed to be sufficient spare
time.

Congratulations again on the honor and heres wishing
you continued success and good luck.
