Dear Mr. Calder,

Your very good letter of Oct. 11 has been received and I
assure you I will be happy indeed to make Mariam's life
as pleasant as possible here at the University of Kansase

I am sorry that fraternity and sorority life here is much
exaggerated beyond its normal worth. It's too bad that the
younger people view this over-emphasis with se much concern.
It makes for a lot of suffering that should not exist, but
I feel that every good thing has some attendant evils.
