August 25, 1941. ir. John Cress, Physical iraining Departuent, Maxwell Field, Alebama. Dear John: I have just returned from the Iowa High School Athletic Association coaching. school, and find your letter of the 2ist instent on my desk. I am very happy to know of your location, and wish for you and Dorothy success and happiness. We shall give the University business office your address so thet your checks for your sumer work will be forwarded to you. Dorothy, we appreciate all the fine things you aid this summer and I want you to imow that we received many - compliments from the mothers on your excellent work with the children. So muy of them said, “She is just a natural littl mother”, end I think that is a fine tribute. John, I went you to know how much we apprecieted your exhibitions during the Summer Session end at the basket- bell gemes. You created a fine impression. If and when the emergency is over we will be happy to use you if we are given enough time to make our budgetary allowance. Of course, it might be altogether possible that we would be committed to certain other scholarships thet might keep us from fulfilling our desire to’ go along with you, but I am hoping that we will have information in advance of the time so that we can take you on when it is your desire to re- turn. Doubtless with the salary that you will get you can lay aside a small nest-egg that will help you to contime your education so that you will mot have to keep your nose to the grindstone. T am wondering, John, if you would tell me some of the best students you had in your classes who might be returning thia year, It is possible that we might use them as student aseistents, and I would appreciate having your recoumendations. With all good wishes to you both, I an Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation, FCA:AH Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
