Jume 18th, 1941 Mr. Lefford F. Cushingbery Medicine Solos “enane Dear friend, Cushingbery: ; I find that I feiled to answer your good letter of April 14th. My baseball, Commencement speeches, my speeches in the Srapefruit and Lettuce e, and the University Commencement as well as the Seventp Fifth Anniversary have kept me from digging your letter cut of my belated correspondence file. Of course we had e good visit with Bill Forsythe during the Kansas Relays when the boys shot baskets. I understend that Bill is ell set to be with us this fell. Ba pate Now regarding Pmiternities: “hile I'm e Phi Psi, I absolutely refuse to have anything to do in rushing a boy for this or that fraternity. 1 did not show your letter te Wit, nor shall I, because I have always insisted that all of my staff stay away from rushing during rush week and after the boys have made their decisions, then of course I drop down to the house to say “hello” to them, It's often been said that I have @ great many of the Bhi Psis on ay basketball tean, put it's through lity of mind that they become Phi Psis and if they né team I assure you it’s no favoritism showm them I mention this in a very straight forward fashion so you will know my attitude in regard to fraternities. A nonefraternity boy has just as much a chance to make my team as does a fraternity boy. I have lived too long a time to let a Greek letter shown upoa the breast of a boy influence me in making a decision regarding his athletic ability. I do appreciate your interest and it hes been @ pleauure to me to have known yous. I hope that when you pley in Wichita, Febraary 2nd, or in any of our Conference ganes, fhat you will wake your presence known, It will be a pleasure to have a visit with youe I appreciated your hospitality while we were in Medicine Ledge last springe — With all good wishes, I an, Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation-Varsity Basketball and FCA: re Baseball Coach.
