INDIANA UNIVERSETY BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR MEN April 2, 1940 Dr. Forrest C. Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Phog:- Your letter of March 29th reached me yesterday morning and I want to thank you for writing me as you did with regard to the ticket situation. Let me take this opportunity of congratulating you upon staging such a successful final game, financially and otherwise, Everett Dean, Branch McCracken and Ralph Graham, all three, told me that from reports they heard around Kansas City you could have sold two or three times as many tickets as were sold if it would have been possible to get them in the auditorium, You proved that there is no place up to the present at least that can equal Kansas City in backing such a tournament as you had the week preceding the final game and the final game itself. I read in the papers that the finals are again to be held at Kansas City. If this report is correct, I assure you that Ole Olson and you certainly reached oC. rl I will ask our ticket man to forward a report to be at once, For your information wish to say that ten tickets were sold here and the other forty were turned in by Ralph Graham i# to our good old friend Ernest Quigley on Saturday morning. Coach McCracken and all the members of our team were delighted with the reception and treatment that they received while in Kansas City. Mac told me that the game was very clean, that the fouls committed were all made in the heat of such a terrifically fast and exciting game. He said that your boys were very fine sportsmen and played an excellent clean game of basket- ball. Of course, you know that weeare more than delighted with the outcome of the game and the performance our boys gave. At the same time, I realize that the result was most disappointing to you, but on the other hand I am sure you have satisfaction in knowing that your boys did put up an excellent and sportsmanlike game, and that you yourself conducted the most outstanding tournament that the National Collegiate has ever held. With kindest regards to Mrs, Allen and yourself, I am Very cordially yours, ° G. Clevenger j Director of Athletics
