No doubt there are members of your staff who are interested in recreation work and who may know of some one who is interested, In January, 1936, when this institute was in Kansas’ City there were 295 persons registered for the com plete course or for a part of the course, Among this number were about fifty teachers and instructors from the physical educational recreation department of the Kansas City public schools, Most of these teachers regis~ tered for the night classes, ae 3 It seems to us that this is an opportunity that should not be overlooked by those engaged or intere ested in recreation work. I know how busy you have been, and I understand the delay. I do want te thank you for your kind-~ ness in asking Lowe-Campbell to make a duplicate of the suit. Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I have been apprehensive for some weeks prior to the receipt of your letter of October 6 lest the unavoidable dragging out of this jacket matter might run into your basketball season. I had the thing all settled early in July, and I had come to a complete agreement and understanding with the attorney for the woman who is bringing suit. She didn't like the settlement he made and would not confirm it, discharged him and started all over again with a new attorney. Until very recently it apveared that it would be necessary to take depositions, and I have been waiting the determination of this fact to write to you, possibly with a view of making an appointment. However, in the last few days, it has appeared that perhaps a settlement will again be reached and that depositions will again be unnecessary. I should know this week. I am asking Lowe & Campbell to make you a duplicate of the suit you let me take with your suggested addition of the hip pocket with a Talon fastener. I hope they will get it to you promptly. You will recall that I borrowed several of the team's woolen sweaters, the fasteners on some of which need replacing. I am having these replacements made and will ship them to you promptly. I greatly appreciate your kindness and cooperation in this matter which is of course of no interest to you, and I am doing everything I can to avoid causing you the slightest inconvenience. I shall hope to write you again within a few days. Very truly yours, Ch ae T. L. Chisholm TLC:b Assistant Secretary October 14, 1937. Mr, Thornton Cooke, President, Columbia Wational Bank, Kansas City, Missouri. Dear Mr, Cooke: I acknowledge receipt of your good letter this morning, I find that you ere slightly mixed on the schedule, as Kansas plays lowa State College on October ie, and Kansae State College on November 13, However, I immediately got in conference with Myr, Earl Palkenstie the financial secretary of the Athletic Association, who handles the ticket sale, and he is fo your directions regarding sending the tickets and so forth, with the thought that you perhaps wanted the Iowa State tickets instead of Kansas State. If you really prefer Kansas State it will be an easy matter to send them back and get the Kansas State tickets later, I am enclosing a football sched~ ule for your conveniences, There is one correction on it = the "B” team game with the Missouri "B" team has been cancelled, Coach Lindsey did not went to risk his reserves against Missouri on October 22 when ali will be needed for the fracas at Norman when they meet the University of Okla- home on October 23. : | You certainly are not unreason~ able in asking for your K ticket and your Relays ticket. Sept e 20, 1937 2 Mr. Forrest C. Allen, Director of Physical Education, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Phog - cad Jack Buckman and his brother, Paul, were in Saturday. I told him to enroll in school and we would find a way of taking care of his needs. His brother Paul said that if he could get a job he would help Jack and no other help from the Argentine business men would be necessary. Now, in this connection, I would suggest that you call Lewis H.Brotherton, Drexel 1717 office number, Fairfax 5154 residence number. There is going to be an opening in our janitor force on the 25th. Lewis told me that he had a man for this job but may be if you call him he will consider Paul. I would not say that I suggested it for the reason that I want you to put it up to Lewis in a way that he would feel that he is doing it himself for the school. You might just ask him if he could take care of this job in some way as you know he has charge of employment of a good many men, Your letter speaks of $15.00. I understood over the phone that if the men were willing to take care of this $15.00 it was that much a month. It now is not clear as. to whether it is $15.00 a month or just $15.00 total. I presented this to the Argentine men and they are to let me know. Jack's brother Paul is very enthusiastic over him going to K.U. He told me that his family is much happier now since he has made a decision to enroll in Kansas. Paul is about 25 years old. Ted Kenny has great possibilities in an athletic way | if he could be weaned away from his present associates. Jack wants him to room with him and I am Sure thet if this arrangement can be made, it will profit both boys for Ted is a very bright boy and probably could help Jack with his work. Ted has means of help that he could call upon if necessary. I understand that he has an uncle in Texas who would be willing to help. His sister is one of our teachers; however, I have never talked to her about Ted. She pro- bably could be induced to help him if it was necessary. This fellow Calovich is not much force and I would not spend any time upon him. The only reason I got him a job is baecies I understood he was a good friend of Renko! can now control Kenko, Radensic is only a fair boy and we would not lose if he I might also add that Calovich and decided Net to stay at Kansas. Radensic were trying to get Ted to go to Oklahoma as they thought that they would get more money at that school. I, of eourse, do not like that attitude. We are planning on attending the Nebraska game so be sure and reserve four or five tickets and let me know the cost and I will take care of it.
