First Glenn cracked the 1500 meter record of 3:49.9 with a time of 3:48.4 at the National 4.4.U. meet in Madison Square Garden and then five days later he chopped four seconds off the world indoor record in the . alle at Dartmouth with his time of 4:04.4. The latter tise elso sur- passed the outdoor mile record of 4:06.4 set by Woodersen of England last summer. Cunningham first broke into the nation 1 spotlizht in 1930 % when he won the mile in 4:24.7 at the national high school meet. He had eérlier in the season set a Kansas Releys hiz:h school record that still stands. The following year he was a freshmen at Kansas Universit, 6nd so was not in intercollegiateccompetition. 1932 saw Glenn, a soph- omore, Winning a place on the America Olympic team and then being the first American to finish in the Olympic 1500 meter run.
