The Jayhewk flier recently astounded tle soorts world by running a mile in the previously unheard of time of 4:04.4 and his return to his alma nater should sttract even mole attention than usual. Kensas Cunningham has already notified "Bill" Hés iss, track coach, that he will be here for the Relays and all that remains is for sel- ection of Cunningham's opponents. Glenn is enjoying the vreatest indoor segeson of his career and should fare even better outdoors. Since falling in his first race of the season, Cunningham has not been defeated at any distance, In the space of six days he set two world records. First Glenn cracked the 1500 meter record of 3:49.9 with a time of 3:48.4 at the National 4.4.U. meet in Madison Square Garden and then five days later he chopped four seconds off the world indoor record in the . alle at Dartmouth with his time of 4:04.4. The latter tise elso sur- passed the outdoor mile record of 4:06.4 set by Woodersen of England last summer. Cunningham first broke into the nation 1 spotlizht in 1930 % when he won the mile in 4:24.7 at the national high school meet. He had eérlier in the season set a Kansas Releys hiz:h school record that still stands. The following year he was a freshmen at Kansas Universit, 6nd so was not in intercollegiateccompetition. 1932 saw Glenn, a soph- omore, Winning a place on the America Olympic team and then being the first American to finish in the Olympic 1500 meter run. The followings winter he began his aypearance in the feature ° races in the east, both indoor and outdoor. He von the Columbian mile in New York four years out of five, and in 1934 in this race he - set the world mark at 4:08.4, which he himself broke this season. He won the Baxter mile in New York four ties in the past six years and * the Wanameker Mile five times out of six. At the Princeton Invitation meet in 1934 he set the outdoor record of 4:06.7 which stood until last summer, and is yet the American outdoor record. 3 Cunningham ran again in the 1936 Olympics, pressing Lovelock to 6 new Olympic record, and himself being clocked in time better than <é the previous record.
