Dear Mrs. Deuels

I am sorry to write you that it is impossible to get an
apartment in Lawrence. Lawrence is overflowing with veterans and it is
estimates that there will be 800 veterans who will come to the University
for their first time on February 11, the date of the second semester.
Dean Js 0. Jones is the dean of the Graduate School so I would suggest
that your sonein-law write Dean Jones for it. I would also suggest that

his high school transcript be mailed in early so that that can be ppoperly
taken care of. ~? |

I am sure that your daughter, Patty, will not have much
difficulty obteining a stenographic position. The fact that she rates
under the Civil Service and works in the 0.P.A. office in Cheyenne will
insure her a position, I am sure,

I suggest that your sonein-law also write to Dr. Lawrence
Woodruff, the Registrar of the University, telling Dr. Woodruff that he
is coming to town and that he would like an apartment. The veterans have
been renting the apartments of the Sunflower Village. This is out between
Eudora and DeSoto and they are lovely apartments, They will have bus service
regularly into the University and on a splendid highway. It is only about
ten miles ovt. They have rented over two hundred of these apartments to
the veterans amd they are going fast. I think they have three hundred
more. I believe that if you and your sonein-law act promptly, he andPatty
will get fixed up in splendid styles ans

Give my congratulations to your daughter and to your fine
son-in-law, who is tops in my opinion because he was a discharged marine.

I wish to beg your pardon for not answering your letter ibooner.
but I have been covered up in my teaching and coaching work and each time I
would try to dictate a mass of letters I would be diverted from my courses We
are playing Oklahoma tonight, but I have made up my mind that I would dictate
this letter if. I did nothing else. I am sure that this letter will arrive in
emple time so that your desires and the desires of your children will be
