PRES. & CASHIER SPRING HILiL,KANSAS July 2nd ,1945 Dr.Forrest C.Allen, University of Kansas Lawrence Kansas Dear "Phog"®:= The best manner in which I can thank you for your talk to my son’ Joe last week is to tell you that he decided in favor of and is now enrolled in the 16 weeks semester in the Engineering School. He is living at the Phi Psi houses with a nice group of boys and will,as soon as he gets acu ames to like K.U. life. I have taken the liberty to suggest that if he hits a snag or meets some problem about school that bothers too much, to drop in and talk to you. I am sure that he will not overdo the privilege. He is pretty level headed and quite self reliant, but there may be some thing come up that would “discourage. a boy without the proper word of en- couragement at the right time, from the right party. If you have any basket-ball activity during the summer semester that he can indulge in without interference with his studies,I would naturally be more than pleased and consider it a privilege for the boy to get into it under your direction and coaching. The Dean of the Engineering School sug- gested that Joe should take R.O.7.C. in connection with his work, suggesting that that would get him out of gym. classes. On the way home I suggested that if you condueted ang basket- ball program, and he engaged in that,he miggt fulfill Bis gym. requirenents in that manner. “e may "be in to talk to you about thate N “aturally I - ereatly appreciate youYadvice to the boy;I wanted him to make up his mind for himself that the wise course was to get into school.
