Dear Johnny:

T received your letter Saturday morning, and an hastening
to reply. IT called Dr. Lawrence Woodruff regarding what you said
and what you should do, and he said that you could apply to your
Navel headquarters for ea transfer if you wanted to for medicine
or engineering, but he was quite sure that they would not transfer
you here for a business set-up because the government does not have.
it here. Their specialization is medicine and engineering.

| And too, Dr. ‘oodruff said that it is altogether thinkable
that they might not send you to the University of Kansas at all,
but might send you to some other base. So I am afraid, Johny,
that you will heve to talk to your officers down there and find
out what possibility and what chances of transfer you might have.
Rest assured that we would be delighted to have you, but even the
President of the United States earmot do some things.

It am sorry that I missed you when you stopped in Lawrence.
It would have given we pleasure to have taiked to you personally
because I could have explained many things to you in person that
it is difficult to write. This one thing I want you to definitely
feel - that we want you to cowplete your education here at the
University of Kensas. I assure you that there would be no problem
if you and I ean carry on our understandings togethes. We have
never had any misundsrstendings and we will not have because I
know thet you want an education, ea real education, and that is what
we want you to have. :
