Dear Doc:

This letter has been due for a long time. The press of work
since the first of the year, however, has caused me to neglect personal
correspondence,

I was very happy to hear that all our p. e. majors finally did
obtain jobs; they were a deserving, capable group of boys. I believe
they will always be a credit to the physical education department and
to the University, whatever they do.

A casual note from Blbel requesting some information about our
program was the manner in which I found out that he had left K. U,t
Indirectly I have also heard that Jim Hitt was called in. I suppose
many more have gone. My immediate concern, when I heard from Blbel,
was for you and Henry Shenk. It must be a terrific load on both of
you to carry the entire departmental teaching load. I do hope you
don't exhaust yourselves completely. |

Saturday, at the California-Standord baseball game, I saw and
talked to your brother, who,as you probably know, was recently promoted
to the rank of full colonel. He looks fine and is doing a swell job
with the Stanford ROTC unit. He is pets 4 ular with the students.

He told us about Jane and’ her husband coming out here. We are
looking forward to seeing them very much. Ruth and I both hope that
Jane's coming out will entice both you and Mrs. Allen into a trip out
this way this summer. We would love to see both of you. Ruth will
be only too glad to help dane find a house--and that isn't easy right
now in this area! We are living down near Palo Alto and I telieve
your brother said that Jane wants to live somewhere down the Peninsula
also. :

I suppose K. U.'s enrollment will be hard hit by the war, along
ith all other schools, That will probably mean that physi¢al educa-
tion majors will be practically eliminated from the department. But
the type of thing I mentioned in my talk needs to be done in every
school and college for every student. Maybe those academicians back
