HEADQUARTERS 4TH AIR FORCE Office of the Commanding General Riverside, California Sept. 22, 1941 Dear Doc, I was very sorry that I missed you on that Saturday that I was in Lawrence. I stopped in several times dur- ing the morning, and Mrs. Hulteen said that she expected you back each time. In the afternoon I got tangled up with my own moving deal (that Hall Bros. was supposed to have done before I arrived!), and didn't finish until even- ing. I had to leave on an early morning train Sunday. In- that I will have to go to:Oklahoma City several times during the year, however, I'll try to schedule one of my trips to coincide with one 6&f your basketball games down there. Will you please send me a basketball sched= ule as soon as they are made up? We received an announcement that Jane had been mar- ried! Congratulations are in order--please extend them to her and her husband if you see them. Also to Mrs. Allen, for I know that she really worked on that match! Miss Kinney, in the Extension Division, asked me to talk to you concerning the Track and Field Correspondence Course. She said that September 15th would be the best time for a change to be made. I imagine that you will want Henry Shenk to take this course over. I t will be a good chance for him to “set his hand in the track and field theory before he starts teaching the course in the second semester. I appreciated correcting the course during the summer, for the extra dough was very useful (or will be when I get it), for our expenses have been rather heavy. I am answering a letter from John Pfitsch inquiring atout possible physical education jobs in the army. Un- fortunately, much as we need them in the Air Corps, there is no authorization for them as yet. I am advising him to apply to the Navy, which is out for 600 trained physical ed men. Ruth and I both miss all you people in Lawrence. I wish we were not so far apart so that we could have a good visit once in a while. You better come 6ut to the Coast next year. Possibly I shall go thru Lawrence on my way to Washington within the next month or so. I shall cer- tainly stop if I do. a Best of luck sand Hehe fon a and ce be
