My dear Dr Allen

Thank you so much for sending the cutting from the
Star. Do you suppose that there Mr McBride would
send a copy? I should say not. So you see how much
I am indebted to you, as I should not have know of it
otherwise.

Anyway, it is a nice tribute, even if it does take a
shot at the new book, And I am especially grateful

to you for your comment, which, believe me, Dr Allen,
I appreciate most highly. While apparently laborious,
the guide work was really a labor of love from the
beginning, so that at no time has any of it been tiresome.
While I could never be paid materially for the time

I have spent, the associations it has brought, not to
mention memories, have amply repaid me. And in this
devotion, my long suffering wife is entitled to a meed
Of praise for her patience and forbearance.

I am still going on with the Spalding firm--in fact, I
am a "vice president"--in a sort of contact capacity; so
maybe some day I shall stretch the itinerary and show up
in Lawrence to thank you in person for your encomiums.

In the meantime, my dear Dr Allen, please accept my
renewed thanks, and all all good wishes for Mrs Allen ~..
