UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS. —— LAWRENCE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION May 14th, 1941 Dr. F. C. Allen, Director Department of Physical Education & Recreation University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: The position of Director of Physical Training for the Southwest Air District (4th Air Force) has recently been offered to me. I have decided to accept the appointment for several reasons: (1) The position pegs thirty eight hundred dollars per annum. (2) I ama Reserve 'fficer and I am quite likely to be called into the service during the ensuing year, anyway. (3) My work with the Air Force will be of much more value to the Army end to the total defense effort than would my service as a field officer in the artillery. (4) The opportunity for professional advancement as a result of the experience obtained in this position should be considerable. I therefore wish to resign my position as Instructor in Physical Education at the University of Kansas. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work and my association with you and the other members of the staff during the two years I have been a member of the University faculty. Sincerely, Dr. Allen, both Mrs. DeGroot and I regret leaving the University and Lawrence. Future plans are, of course, very uncertain during the continuance of the present national and international situation. When the present emergency has ended, however, and my work with the War Department has been terminated, I hope that I may again be considered for a position at the University of Kansas. Yours sincerely, ER hh Mot, § EBG:re E. B. DeGroot, Yr.
