University Faculty and Employees; The Lawrence Cortaumnity Chest campaign started this morning at 9 o't¢lock, The Co:;munity Chest is an incorporated body authorized under the laws of Kensas with a constitution and by-laws, The officers are Mr, J. J. Lavery, Mr. Walter A. Scheal, Mrs. ©. J. Dodds, Mr. E. J. Coy, end Mr. George Hedrick. The Kick-Off Breakfast was held this morning at the Eldridge Hotel, signalizing the start of this sincere and wholehearted campaign for the relief of distressed anc unfortunate citizens in Lawrence. We sincerely trust that you will avail yourself of the opportunity to make a contribution for this worthwhile project, By contributing you will enable Lawrence and the Universit, to go over the top in keeping with the ideals and practices of frve America. The democratic nations are the only nations that do such a thing as we are doing in Lawrence, Kansas, at the present timo. The total budget for Lawrence this year is $7,863.44. The 4.U. Y.M.C.A. is included in this budget, and there will be no additional solicitation of funds for this organization, The Christmas Program, the Fourth of July celebration and the United Service Organizations quotas are listed separately and are not incorporated in the financial estimates on this statement. The giving of funds for these two items will be entire- ly optional, The National Red Cross desires not-to be included because they have oan organization of their own, and calls may be frequent by them : 4 at rding to emergency.
