Mr. W. A. acai Coach of Athletics Leavenworth High School Dear Wally, Z acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 28th instant and will be happy to have your high school basketball clinic for coaches ené players in this part of the state on November 21st and 22nd. We will count on this. I will be happy to have you make a trip over and to write me what you would like in your scheduled program. Will you please give me some idea as to when you can arrange to come? With all good wishes I am : Poa/pe Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation Varsity Basketball and Basebgll Coach : Leavenworth Senior Gigh School Oo. R. YOUNG, PRINCIPAL Leavenworth, Kansas Dr, F. C. Allen, October 28, 1941 Coach of Basketball, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: I have given some thought to the idea of having our High School Basketball Clinic for the Coaches and players in this section of the state on November 21 and November 22. There, no doubt, will be many Coaches and players attending the football game between Missouri and Kansas on November 21. We would appreciate it if it were possible for the coaches and players¥attend the Freshman- Varsity basketball game the evening of November 21; then on the morning of Saturday, November 2c, we could work out a program where your boys and you could demonstrate fundamentals, and aqswer any questions the players and Coaches have to ask. I will make a special trip to see you so that we might work out some scheduled vcrogram and also begin sending out publicity. Sincerely yours, W. A.Forsberg Coach of Athletics Leavenworth High School. . Ooteber 22, 1941 ir. We A. Poresberg Athletic Director : Leavenworth High School Leavenworth, Kansas Dear Wally, I acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 21st instante last night a thought came to me that might be a possibility. After the Homecoming parade and demonstration which will take place on Friday everi November 21, we have planed a basketball game be- tween the Varsity and the freshmen in the new auditorium. The. tine would bo about 9:15 p.m. We're not planning to make a charge, but the game will be-a good one. Why would it not be ea good scheme for the K.S.1.3.CeA. to use this dates Saturday morning then, we could — use for demonstrations. The only catch would be that your organi- _ gation might have some high school gemes for Friday night the 21st which would keep some of the coaches from seeing the game. However, in this case doubtless I could arrange a geme for Thursday night or afternoon and in this way make both the demonstration game and the _ elinic Saturday morning . The weather at this time of the year is generally so inclimate that night gemes are almost out of the question. I note that you will be in Saturday morning, October 25. I have a Budget Committee oe at 10:00 o'clock in the morning in the Chancellor's office, but should get through a little before 12 o'clock. If you will come to my office in the gymmasium, Miss Gowans, my secretary, will know just about the time 1°11 be free so that I can BCG yoOUe Thenk this thing over, i oa ids cs ts donatndins tee prove interesting. This Varsity~Freshmen game is a real fight and you'll see some good basketball played. Then, Saturday morning we can go the coaching fundamentals or anything that your organization would like to have. We pledge you our full cooperation. Foresburg Athletic Director Leavenworth High School - Leavenworth, Kansas Dear Wally, I regret to tell you that on the first week-end in Decembere the 5th and 6th, the Big Six coaches are meeting in Kansas City to schedule their 1942-43 basketball games. On the next week-end-ethe 12th and 13th, the School of Fine Arts will have exclusive use of the auditorium. Their annual Christmas vespers will be held Sunday the 14th, and three days before this event they have full use of the building. I regret extremely that such is the condition. Of course we have no games scheduled and I do not know how we can arrange a clinic under these cone ditions. It may be that we could meet a Service team during the Christe mas vacation, but I doubt whether the coaches would be interese ted. Do you have any suggestions? Association have appointed me to supervise the basketball clinic which will be held in various cities throughout the state. The most satisfactory time for these clinics will be the first or second Saturday in December. As be pasetnle far you and your doys to conduct the clinic for the coaches and high school players in this section of the state. There will be five other clinics throughout the state. I think it would be nice for every one concerned if the clinic could be us same day that a college basketball game was being played. In this way the boys could attend the game that evening. Any suggestion wuld be appreciated. With kindest personal regards, Sincerely, (UJ W. As For erg Leavenworth High School. July 2ist, 1941 Elmer A. Linscheid Partridge, Kansas Dear Sir: Your communication of the 19th instant received. Doubtless you desire to inquire regarding the Kansas Coaching School which is under the direction of Mr. A. &. Thomas, State High School Activity Association, Topeka, Kansas. I am sending carbon copy of this letter to him sq that he may wrdte you. I do not have a coaching school in Kansas but we do have one in Towa and I'm sending you a folder of the Towa igh School Athletic Association's Coaching School and Officials' Cline te be held at Boone, Iowa from August 18th In this way you can make your own choice. Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Reereation~Varsity Baksetball and Baseball Coach. FCArre ‘September 26, 1941. Mr. Frank E. Strickler, Principal, Lene Community High School, Dighton, Kansas. Dear Mr. Strickler: I beg to acknowledge reesipt of your very kind favor of the 22nd instant. I deeply apprec- iate your invitation to conduct a clinic at Dighton, but I am not sure of my dates at the present time. I am planning tentatively to be et Dodge City on December 11 and 12, and on Decasber 18th we are piaying a game with Bethel College at Newon, Fansas, dedicating their fine new fieldhouse. It would be a near impossibility to take the boys away from school for a clinic. I have never done that, except. during vacation time, because the boys are here pri- marily for study, and it is suicidal to teke them eway from school any more than is absolutely necessary. We are also playing et Wichita ‘on Pebruary énd, and I em wondering if you would care to bring your boys to observe either our game at Wichita or at Newton. I have written Principal Toalson to determine definitely the dates for his clinic. I shall be g to write you further after I hear from hin. Very sincerely yours, Direstor of Physical Education and Recreation, PCA: AH Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach. LANE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL FRANK E. STRICKLER, Principal Dighton, Kansas . nk September 22, 1941 Mr. Forrest C. Allen Director of Physical HKducation Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear Mr. Allen: We are interested in conducting a Basketball Clinic this year that will be similar to the one held at Vodge City last year. Through conversation with Mr. Lawrence Stanton, Basketball Coach ‘at Dodge VYity we learn that you may be the instructor for the 1941-42 clinic at Dodge bity. What would be your charges to conduct one here at Dighton for the W.K.E.A League, if we could have our clinic at a date that could permit you to conduct the two clinics on the same trip?* Will you bring your players so that we could have a demonstration from them and also an exhibition game the night of the one day clinic? If this were possible we could be able to attract about tem teams for the clinic, consisting of eight: teams within the league and two teams outside. Hosington and Vakley would be willing to participate I am sure. We could also attract a large crowd to the exhibition game at night. In my opinion this would “be a nice way of advertising Kansas University! s athletic department to future prospective students found in this section of the state. Our playing facilities are very good, consisting of a floor space of fifty by seventy five feet, very high ceiling, four modern dressing rooms with an adjoining building that could be used as a dressing room if necessary, and we have the new type goals. Please send us all information as to price and time if you are able and would like to conduct our clinic, Thank you, FES /he ue F. EB.
