Dear Dr. Allen: I am writing to inform you that I have made reservations for you at the Sam Houston Hotel which is about a block and a half off of the campus. The best I could do was a connecting bath, as our hotéls have not quite assimilated the idea of private baths but I believe that you will be comfortable as the hotle is both clean and cool. Your reser- vation is made for Timrsday the eleventh and after you get cleaned up and settled, you can get in touch with me either at my home, phone 427 or at the Men's Gym, phone 451, depending on the time of the day. If I am not available, ask for Mr. Louis LeMay, my assistant for the summer and who is conversant with the Coaching School progrem. You and Kerr will be in the same hotel. I have just received a letter from Kerr and he says that he is bringing Fred Swan, Warner's line coach, with him to help him in his demonstration work and I believe that that this will be an added attrac- tion. : Roe Our local Chamber of Commereecis attending to the entertainment end of the school and their committee has planned a Lyceum number on Wednesday night, July 17 with you and Kerr as the headliners talking on your respective sports. Since they seem to be so enthusiastic over the idea, I am planning to invite the entire summer school student hody and the citizens of Huntsville and Houston, our neighboring large city, to attend this feature. The talk would have to be more or less general as the technical knowledge of the audience will not be particularly high. Sincerely yours, Jws/L r pes i : en asa e A ; BY: ; i i : gune 20, 1955 Ur. KIRK RANZELL NICKELSON Dr. Forrest C, Allen, Athletic Director, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: In arranging our schedule for the Coaching School, we have arranged a period on one hour and thirty minutes a day for six days for the Basketball course. We expect this period to be an early one. We did not know how mech time to give to you for your course on the treatment of injuries but decided to allot one hour a dey for that course. I hope this arrangement will be entirely satisfactory but if you have suggestions to make, please let me have them at your earliest convenience. It might be possible to run out some mimeograph sheets with an outline of your course or any material along that line that you care to hand out to the students provided it would not incur too great of an expense. In case you decide to have this material mimeographed, please let us have it at once. It looks as if our school will be a success and we will have quite a few present but as you. 1% is impossible to esti- mate numbers in a school of this kind. The hotel accommodations here in Huntsville are rather poor and I would suggest that you g¥¢g allow us to make reser- vations for you so that you can get the best available. To, Jones, Dir, of Phys» Ed., Sam Houston St, Teachers College, Huntsville, Texas, Dear Mr, Jones: , I have your letter of the Srd inst. and am very happy to hear from you, ( I believe it would be very much better to have the course on the Treatment of Athletic Injuries early in the morning, I believe we make a mistake in starting some of our courses too late, don't know what time you propose to start your first hour but I believe we could very nicely start the training course a@ 9 o'clock, I think it would be well to have the lecture poom in the gymnasium, Then we could have the boys dress for basket ball and follow this with my course in basket ball, | So many times I use the aspera? from the coaches of both-football and basket ball to demonstrate with, You would be surprised how interesting this course can be made using some old permanent injuries to the football and basket bal men, such as bad knees, bad ankles, bad sacro illiac sprains down the back, ete,, for clinics. After you fix a few of se old time i es up so the boys can play without handicap, then you really se our course to the coaches, We will have boys coming in there for es with athletic injuries and of course, that helps enthuse the coaches over what they can do, I always show the boys how to fix these injuries and it is this type of cooperation that gets across, i will be very happy to respond with that public lecture any time that you wish, I am sure that we can get over in good shape and be an asset to your coaching school, I am in your hands and perfectly willing to cooperate with you to the fullest extent. | With every good wish, I am _ Sincerely yours, Director, PCAsIW H.
