Last weekeend I passed on your request to Mire Deli Davidson to mark your temis courts, but I think the football activities probably prevented him from getting it done on Saturday. I wrote you June 6th., asking that my basketball goals furnished you for test purposes be returned to me and to date have received no answer or the goals, will you please see that some action is taken on same at once and have them returned to me or a check to cover cost of same, as [I can sell them here very easily as there are several College circuits which will use them whether they are aproved or note There seems to be a lot of guesswork among the coaches why my goals were not approved this is from members who attended the meeting. I have been told that it is all up to yow to approve my goal and if this is so it is worth 5% net earnings to have it passed without forcing st thru the petition method which the coaches and Captains of various organizations suggest’. I think now that we are organized here the goals being assembled in large lots will retail for around $10.50 per pair.and will carry 4 list price of $12.00. I expect to enter the hospital to have my left eye removed and if it is in your power to help me Mr. Allen will you please do so. I am a good sport and everything will be 0O.K. Daar Fogs I have deen waiting at home and at the telephone for your call or appearance but thought now i better write relative to the visitwe talked about some time back. Ha. Ha. Presented your letter to the principal of the school and showed him how busy a fellow you were going to be about that time and he too could see that it falls in a period when y6éu are getting ready for your basketball season and that left only about a couple off dates open in the week of December xkxk 10th and that simmered down to about Tuesday Dec 12th or Wed Dec 13th. Now Dr. if that happens to be your busy — time them we will just have to pospone it until next year and then try tuxget to get together for a banquet date and in the meantime I may be able to see you this following weekend to say helloe Best regards to you, Mrs and the family and if you can give me a reply I will forward it to the principal of the school here in Order that he can go on with his plans. Thanking you and remaining as ever, Your Friend Claflin, Kansas, October 8th, 1939. Dear Dr. Allen: Be prepared for a correspondence shock as no doubt this letter will come to you as quite a surprise but nevertheless here it is and how are you and the family. Conversation with Mr. Anderson, the Claflin School superintendent the other day brought your name to mention and he conveyed the good wishes and greetings that you extended the Joe Bloomers through him when he was in Lawrence this summerand we were glad to have word Pon you, then he and I both had a similar idea which needs your presence to be complete, the idea being as follows, The little town of Claflin holds an annual football banquet every year for the football boys and I have been wondering why you could'n be the speaker for that occasion het evening, (and I can't think of anything to bar you, Ha), and on top of that make it a visit with Evelyn and me as a side issue, that I know would be most enjoyable to the Bloomers. Knowing that your time is pretty well spoken for we thought best to let you name the date if possible between the lst and 16th of December, in- elusive, If we might make a suggestion, exclude the 6th and if possible the Saturdays as Claflin is a small town and the merchants are always busy on Saturday nights, ha. We certainly hope that you and Mrs Allen can pay us this visit Dr., and we will be expecting nothing other than a favorable reply. Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas My dear Dr. Allen: I was out of town when your telegram came and it was several days before I received it. Anyway, the basketball position had been filled before that by Everett Nicholson from Arkansas City. I think he is an excellent man. I am glad that Eddie Wood has a good job selling cars. He is a good salesman and deserves to succeed in that field. As you know, Vanek is at North High School,so Wichita should pro- duce some better basketball this year than heretofore. I am most grateful to you for your interest and wish I might have had one of the boys you had trained in basketball, for I have great faith in your system. Our big football boy, McEnulty, is attending Wichita University. He tried to get a job in Lawrence and not being able to,decided to take work down here this year. He is an unusually fine fellow and a good football player. School has opened well here in Wichita with slight increases in the high school and a great in- crease in interest in athletics. I think we will do better, at least I hope so. With best wishes for a splendid Yemt-at K.U., I am Very truly yours, fiwBreot — L. W. Brooks, Principal Wichita High School East LWB:BA
