Claflin, Kansas, October 8th, 1939. Dear Dr. Allen: Be prepared for a correspondence shock as no doubt this letter will come to you as quite a surprise but nevertheless here it is and how are you and the family. Conversation with Mr. Anderson, the Claflin School superintendent the other day brought your name to mention and he conveyed the good wishes and greetings that you extended the Joe Bloomers through him when he was in Lawrence this summerand we were glad to have word Pon you, then he and I both had a similar idea which needs your presence to be complete, the idea being as follows, The little town of Claflin holds an annual football banquet every year for the football boys and I have been wondering why you could'n be the speaker for that occasion het evening, (and I can't think of anything to bar you, Ha), and on top of that make it a visit with Evelyn and me as a side issue, that I know would be most enjoyable to the Bloomers. Knowing that your time is pretty well spoken for we thought best to let you name the date if possible between the lst and 16th of December, in- elusive, If we might make a suggestion, exclude the 6th and if possible the Saturdays as Claflin is a small town and the merchants are always busy on Saturday nights, ha. We certainly hope that you and Mrs Allen can pay us this visit Dr., and we will be expecting nothing other than a favorable reply. With kindest regards to you, Mrs Allen and the family, we remain Your i $ oh
