Headquarters Ninth Division Fort Bragg, North Carolina Office of G-2 19 November 1940 Dear "Phog"s . | I expect you will be surprised to hear that I am in the Army but I still am able bodied and all that and thought I would do my share in apprehending "that man", I hope this letter finds you and your family in the best of health, = I am in the G-2 Office(Intelligence) and one of the functions of this office is to supervise publications, We have a soldiers weekly paper named the "Fort Bragg Post", devoted exclusively to soldiers. It occurrred to me that since basketball season now is upon us, that you might contribute one "guest column" on basketball to our paper. I have asked about 25 men whom I consider leaders in their profession, to contribute and the result has been unanimously successful-——Walter Winchell included. I wish you would contribute about 250(or more) words, Doc, if you will and I am not intruding on your time. I feel a column by-you at this time would be very appropriate and know that, being written by you, it would lend the very touch of authority that I desire. We have more than 20,000 men down here, many from the Middle West, and I know-that your message would be a greeting to a number of your very loyal friends, including Ed A, Also, Doc, I wish you would have your publicity man send me something about the Kansas “basketball record since you have been there, Something that I can use for the advance build-up that I am going to give all our guest columnists. Write on anything you wish, but imagine something on clean play,.need of good condition, how to keep in good condition, or something like that, would be good, + hope I am not too presumptious. Please give my regards to the men on your staff that I know. With advance thanks, I am Ai td a pie. he EG A. bse Ge2 Office 9th Division Fort Bragg, N.Ce
