Leigh Fischer Attorney-at-Law McLean, Texas June 12, 1939, Dr, Porrest C, Allen, Lawrence, Kansas, Dear Sir: As far as 1 have been able to determine, Miss Margaret Curd wrote Mir, Rogers, the Amarillo Superin- tendent of Schools on April 3r4, inquiring about a position, An application blank was then sent to her, The position would be in one of the junior high schools in Amarillo, and up until the present time hasn't been filled, I doubt if influence, if any, brought to bear would be st all helpful, Rogers is now at Columbia University and will be there most of the summer, A personaly interview would probably be the most helpful thing that Miss Curd could have to make better her chances for a job, Now let me ask you about another matter, We have a football player here in McLean, a senior in hish school this coming year, who I think bids fair to become quite well known some ot these days. He weighs around 195, plays full back now, and is remarkably fast for nis size. If his play next fall is anything like his past performance, he will have offers from many schools, His coach tells me that he is one of the best prospects he has ever seen, He reminds me of ) a fellow named Mayes who played on the Amarillo team (6 in 1956, and who will probably be on the Texas varsity > =9 this fall, in addition, the boy, being a preacher's + ) son, is both smart and conscientious, 7 po ~~ frankly, I'd like to see him at tCU or some other major — \ ) Jf fexas school, but next to that, and before he goes to , Ce fexas Tech, Hardin Simmons, or such schools, 1'4 tke / > Xx ) to see him at Kansas, Coulé probably get him a $15.00 / monthly job at the DU house, but he would need more tf than that, since he will have to be entirely selt- t. v supporting, Could you all do him any good’? Or would . you be interested in trying? University of Kansas, Lawrence , Kans. Dear Dr.Allen:- I trust you will pardon the liberty I take in writing you but I do so in behalf of LeRoy who seems overly anxious to return to the University for some post- graduate work, He seems determined to continue his work in geology and personally, while I am not opposed to it,am leaving the matter entirely in his hands. However,in order for him to accomplish this,he must arrange to at least be in a position to defray his actual operating expenses in so far as his room and board are concerned. This expense will no doubt amount to possibly in the neighborhood of $50.00 per month anderthereabout. It has eccured to me that possibly you might have something in mind or be of some assistance to him in helping him to secure some kind of employment of any — descriptinn whereby he could help himself to gain his objective and if so,such assistance would be greatly appreciated by me. In the meantime,I may be in need of a first class young man of say from 22 to 28 years of age to use as a time-keeper and book-keeper. Should you know of such a person with a book-keeping education, kindly have him write me here telling of his general make up physically, education, experience, etc. Of course, your OK on him as to his personality would be greatly appreciated. Kindest personal regards and best wishes.
