My yo@nger boy has had Asthma or some kind of bronchial disorder for the past five years. He is eight years old now. He has also developed some Hay Fever this fall. We have tried all sorts of medicine and several different physicians and have had no apparent relief. He starts out with a head eold and after a few days develops a hacking cough and then chokes up in his breathing for from 24 to 36 hourse When it breaks he is left limp almost but may seem to be alright and not have another spell for several weeks. I wanted to have your opinion as to what effect Osteopathic treatments might have on his condition. I know you are not in a position to treat him but felt that your advice would be sinwere and that you might suggest someone here who could be depended on.to give the treatments if it is your Judgement that they ought to be given. I assure you that I will be very happy to cooperate with you in any way that you I believe you can get up a swell story because I had known Dre Naismith for 40 years, and was associated with him for $5. ‘That means only 15 years of the game that he and I had no connection whatsoever. 9 =I have had a pretty successful basketball coaching iversity, Baldwin, Kansas; Haskell Institute here at Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg; and for the last 22 years I have been here at the University of Kansase Now the third reason; I am not a medical doctor but an osteopathic physicians. I was injured in playing football in western Kansas, and after having been unsuccessfully treated for five ‘years by medical doctors, an osteopath corrected a bad sacro-iliac sprain, and because of that it made. such an impression on me that I studied it for the benefit that I could give to other people, especially in the coaching field, last year Rddie Shore of Springfield, Massachusetts Hockey Club sent one of his players here from Springfield for me to work ome I have them come to me fron @1ll over the United States, but we do not publicize that. Allen Varsity Basketball Coach University of Kansas Dear Phog: Once again I am about to uous upon your good graces for a basketball yarn. As you probably know, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the game, and with that in mind I have an idea for what I think will be a really swell story. You might not agree with the angle I shall present to you, but there are three big reasons why you would figure so prominently in the story. (1) Because of your association with Dr, Naismith, inventor of the game. (2) Because of your | long and most ‘successful career in coaching ranks. (3) Because, you also are a medical doctor. The last reason is important baelbe 1 would like to do a story which would state that basketball in the final analysis is the ROUGHEST, FASTEST, AND MOST EXACTING UPON ITS PARTICIPANTS of any sport in the book, ) In the first place, I'm convinced it 4s, myself, and. I've heard a lot of competent critics say the same. However, Lit would carry a lot more weight if you, one of the game's out- standing coaches, and at the same time a physician, would ~ advance these theories. Of course, you may not agree with me. But if you agree I am sure you can give us a few ideas which could be incorporated into a perfectly swell yarn, and one which would attract a lot of comment. We could trace the devlopment of the game, showing how it gradually became faster and faster, more exacting upon the players, until mt reached the point where today it s the fastest, toughest thing afloat. I'd appreciate a line or two indicating your feelings on the matter, Best regards, L aa. 4 ene ee e14\ ) THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER FEATURE SERVICE MAIN OFFICE NEA’SERVICE 1200 WEST THIRD ST, CLEVELAND, OHIO (NEWSPAPER ENTERPRISE ASSOCIATION) SUPPLYING A COMPLETE DAILY FEATURE 461 EIGHTH AVENUE .. . .
