_ Doubtless you received my letter and lmow why I feel a lack of
confidence in our ability to make the journey to Hawaii. There are so many
_ people out on the coast in the colleges and wniversities who desire to make
that trip that their pressure and promotion outranks the midlanders. But,
of course, if yeu could do amy good we would be glad to turn a receptive
ear in that directions Howover, with the little almond-eyed boys raising
cain I em afraid that our younger generation will be casting their sights

You asked about Tom Weodwards Yee, indeed, I imow him very well;
in fact, I wrote a letter to his mothor lest week on the death of Tom's
fathers lHowover, I did not know that Tom was out there with you. Give
him my kindest regards and extend to him my deepest and heartfelt sympathy
_ in the loss of his splendid father. His father was a personal friend of

mine, but I did not get to attend the funeral as I. was out of. town at the
time of the death and the fmeral. —

We are putting on a Community Chest drive here and I happen to be
chairman of the KeU» drive here on the hill. The YMCA drive came just previously
and I was assigned to this building, but on the Comunity Chest, which is the
first united drive of this kind for Lawrence, I have the whole hill and what a
job it ite . :

iem starting my basketball practice with the loss of three seniors:
Voran, Ebling and Harp, and the loss of Miller from a trick knee. He has had
both cartliages removeds the external one last imy, so he is laid out this year
thinking that ho will play next year, but I believe he will be playing on Uncle
Sam's outfit before he will represent the Crimson and Blue of Kansase
